With Severance Season 2 officially kicking off, all eyes (and thoughts) are on what’s to come in the new episodes – but things are already planned when it comes to the show’s long-term future. (Warning: spoilers forward!)
Severance Season 2 Episode 1 started off as usual with more questions than answers. Is that Helly R back in the office, or Helena Eagan? What does Lumon have in store for the rebellious Macrodata Refiners? And why is there one child work there now?
While fans are already excited for the return of the Apple TV+ show’s highly anticipated second season, many are also thinking about what lies ahead. With a three-year wait between seasons, many are hoping that there is some certainty in Season 2 and beyond.
Fortunately, creator and showrunner Dan Erickson has confirmed that there is a plan for how many seasons there will be and how much of season 3 is already planned.
Severance Season 3 and beyond has already been “mapped out”
“There’s an end point for the series as a whole and we kind of know how many seasons we’re going to do, even if it’s not finalized yet,” Erickson said. [via Variety]. “A lot has been mapped out for season 3, but a lot can still change.”
“The further we get along in the show, the more things have solidified. Now that we’re starting to think about Season 3, it’s a lot less blue to figure things out than it was for Season 2.”

One of the biggest concerns for Severance fans is the potential for more delays. Season 2 was greatly hampered by the Hollywood Strikes of 2023, which delayed production by several months.
Fortunately, Erickson remains optimistic that the hiatus between seasons 2 and 3 won’t be as long as what fans experienced during this first run.
“What has already happened on screen has given us a clearer path forward,” he said. “I think the process is going faster, but now I’m looking for some wood to knock on.”
